Lenovo laptop battery life

In an industry that gets off on throwing obscure benchmarks at buyers ( “pixel fill rate,” anyone?), lenovo laptop battery life is one of the easiest to understand.

It’s also long been one of the least useful, critics charge, due to the industry’s deceptive use of the dominant standard, the MobileMark benchmark created by the Business Applications Performance Corp. (BAPCo), an industry consortium whose members include Intel Corp., Dell Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and others. (dell GD761 , KD476 , latitude D620 battery , latitude D830 battery )

Solve Your Top Oracle Data Management Problems: Download now”Everyone in the industry knows this benchmark is wildly optimistic and that the actual laptop battery life you’ll get is often less than half what MobileMark suggests,” wrote analyst Rob Enderle last month. “This is because MobileMark measures battery life much like you might measure gas mileage if you started the car, put it in neutral, and coasted down a long hill.”

The latest MobileMark 2007 report measures laptop battery life under three scenarios: reading a document, watching a DVD movie, and doing a “representative” mix of productivity tasks, such as reading and composing documents, editing photos and encoding Flash videos (see page 13 of white paper).

But rather than using an average time based on all three measures, BAPCo designates its third scenario as the way most people use their laptop.

There are several problems with this, according to critics. First, doubters such as AMD say that the productivity test assumes that the notebook is idle 90% or more of the time.

Second, MobileMark’s “productivity” scenario assumes that users, when active, are using only software such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Office. They don’t test usage of music or video applications such as iTunes or Windows Media Player, games or Web browsing. The test also assumes that Wi-Fi is turned off.

That seems particularly unjustified today, since netbooks are touted as on-the-go, Web-centric devices, or high-definition video-capable machines.

Finally, MobileMark 2007 allows PC vendors to set their laptop screen brightness at the lowest possible setting, provided it is no lower than 60 nits (a nit is a measure of brightness. The problem, again pointed out by AMD, is that 60 nits is quite dim, being only about one-fifth of most notebook PCs’ maximum screen brightness.

According to an informal reader poll at Neowin.net, a Windows community site, fewer than 15% of respondents run their notebooks that dim.

Despite the criticism, many vendors are willing to tout the battery life from the Productivity test as their overall MobileMark score. Only Acer Inc. (download PDF here) identified its MobileMark time as a productivity score. Asus Inc., Apple Inc. and Toshiba Corp. didn’t mention MobileMark on their Web sites.

In late June, a class-action lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, targeting Intel Corp. for, according to the San Jose Mercury News, “essentially rigging those tests to inflate the battery life of laptops powered by its chips.”

Intel denied the claims, and noted that the same law firm, Girard Gibbs of San Francisco, unsuccessfully filed a separate class-action lawsuit against Intel several years earlier, according to the Mercury News.

Intel also disputes the claim that the public is being misled. “Anyone who criticizes consumers’ intelligence when shopping for laptops is underestimating the consumers,” an Intel spokesman told the Mercury News.

Carol Hess-Nickels, director of marketing for business notebooks at HP, took the same line. “I’d say we are pretty pleased with the benchmarks used today,” she said in an interview last month several days before the lawsuit was filed. “I’ve not personally gotten complaints.”

HP claims business netbooks such as the Mini 2140 battery and the Mini 5101 can run up to eight hours, or a full business day, on an optional, extended battery.

Lenovo, which has claimed as long as 7.5 hours of lenovo battery life for its laptops on extended batteries, acknowledges there is a problem, however.

“We don’t really like the fact that something is supposed to get four hours and users routinely say, ‘We divide that number by two and that’s what we get,’” said Lenovo segment marketing manager David Critchley in an interview, also several days before the lawsuit’s filing.

Dell appears to agree with Lenovo. “Customers expect the advertised battery life to reflect the way they really use the product,” Ketan Pandya, head of AMD-based products at Dell, told Newsweek last month.

As a counterbalance, some magazine reviewers go overboard to turn off all of a laptop’s power-saving features, Critchley said, which is equally inaccurate. “We put a lot of time and effort into our power manager,” he said. “You’ll see some significant gains from the way we handle sub-components.”

AMD, which complained that MobileMark essentially discriminates against its chipsets because they are more graphically powerful than Intel’s, is all for reforming MobileMark.

In a blog entitled “There has to be a better way,” AMD suggests turning the widely used performance benchmark, 3DMark06, into “an active battery life test” that it argues would be a more accurate measure of average apple powerbook g4 battery life.

Lenovo, although game, is more cautious. “If Dell, HP and Apple all said, ‘Yea, verily,’ Lenovo would be right there with them,” Critchley said.

Lenovo ThinkPad T60 series battery life test

currently have a MacBook Pro, and besides technically being a great laptop, the lenovo laptop battery life (in my opinion) is really bad, around 2.5hrs. I talk to other mobile friends and aparently this is the norm. Norm or not, I don’t consider a computer “mobile” until I can take it somewhere and use it for atleast 4 hours, preferably 5, and anything over 5 just makes my eyes sparkle with happiness.

Alot of comments I’ve gotten recently are “So what, just take your charger with you”, well if I always need to be within 2′ of an electrical outlet, it’s not really a mobile solution anymore, so this doesn’t cut it.

The laptop I’ve been looking at replacing my MacBook Pro is the ThinkPad T60 battery with the 9-cell. I’ve been all over the web trying to find information about the battery life on it and here is what I have so far (times are linked to the reviews the info came from, rating in parens rating the lenovo battery life is my own qualification):

  • 3hrs 42minutes (6/10)
  • 5hrs 16mins (7/10)
  • 5hrs 50mins (8/10)
  • 7hrs 30mins (Jesus/10)
  • Can someone help me out here? The last test uses the Intel integrated crap-graphics and show 3D scores of like 5fps in 2-year old games, but almost 8 hours of lenovo laptop battery life? In their “most typical web browsing tests with ‘Max Battery Life’ setting” the laptop eeked out just under 9 hours! That is absolutely incredible. Let’s look at the differences:

  • Reviews #1, #2, #3 use the 2.0Ghz Core Duo chip
  • Reviews #1, #2, #3 use the ATI X1400 Graphics Chip
  • Reviews #1, #2, #3 use the 15″ 1400×1050 Screen
  • And the reason Review #4 got such insanely high scores seem to be:

  • Review #4 uses the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Review #4 uses the 1.83 Core Duo chip
  • Review #4 uses the 14.1″ 1400×1050 Screen
  • So cutting .17Ghz off the speed of your chip, 0.9 inches off the screen (keeping the same resolution) and using the integrated Intel graphics chip means you get in the ballpark of 2 more hours out of your laptop battery? Sign me up!

I would probably order the T60 setup like Review #4 right now if I didn’t have concerns for both the Core 2 Duo chips which aparently don’t use anymore power than the current series and are even faster and additionally the inability of the Intel graphics chipset to do any 3D at all; I would like the option atleast to run Vista on my laptop when it comes out, even though it probably won’t be laptop friendly until after the first 1 or 2 major service pack releases and OEMs have more than a year with it to port over all their utilities (unless that’s been happening in the background?).

Either way, the first review really made me want to pass on the entire idea, but the 3 other reviews really made me want to get the powerful ThinkPad T60 battery , but then #4 made me nervous again because those numbers are just rediculously high… atleast from what I’m experiencing with mobile computing in general.

    ThinkPad X300: The full review

Ever since the release of the MacBook Air just a few short weeks ago the mobile computing community has been abuzz with expectations from the competition. The MacBook Air is an engineering marvel but one that is not practical for many people. It’s something that everyone wants but, when it comes down to it, even people that can afford it are balking at everything that was left behind in the pursuit of thinness.

This article is not about the Air though. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 was not designed to be an alternative to the Air or some sort of more practical, suit-clad clone. It didn’t come out first and it seems like Lenovo got second dibs on Intel’s undersized Core 2 Duo processor, but the X300 is very much a ThinkPad with powerful thinkpad x300 battery . It is so exciting because this it the first time in a long time that we have seen a ThinkPad that is a real crowd pleaser–instead of something super practical that only an IT manager could love, they rolled out something sexy. Yes, it was designed for business users, but we finally get a ThinkPad with LED-backlighting, a solid-state drive, and one that is under and inch thick. And if that was not enough, it ends up that Lenovo’s engineers finally found a way to cram an optical drive into a sub-3lb notebook, something that has eluded them for years.

We took a long look at the X300’s exterior as well as all the details ThinkPad addicts are dying to know about a few days ago so be sure to check out that article. This time we are going to focus on performance and usability.

    • ThinkPad X300, as tested:
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 1.2GHz
    • Memory: 2GB DDR2 (4GB max)
    • Storage: 64GD SSD
    • Optical drive: DVD-RW
    • Wireless: Sierra Wireless EV-DO mobile broadband, Intel a/g/n, Bluetooth
    • Display: 13.3″ LED backlit, 1440×900
    • OS: Windows XP
    • Extras: fingerprint reader, ThinkLight
    • Weight: starting at 2.9lbs, 3.12 as tested
    • Battery life: up to 7.5 hours (6-cell Li-Ion plus option bay 3-cell Li-Polymer battery [not tested] without integrated DVD),lenovo thinkpad x300 battery

What the X300 brings to the table is a 13.3″ notebook that is under an inch thick (about 12.5″ wide and 9″ deep”), just about 3lbs, and has low voltage processor. Compared to the T60 it has a larger display, it’s thinner, it has an optical drive, longer battery life than thinkpad T60 battery , and it also manages to cram in a full keyboard (based on the one from the ThinkPad’s T series) where the X series has traditionally had to do without an optical drive or full-sized keyboard. The X300 has LED backlighting and is not only the first ThinkPad to come with a SSD but a 64GB SSD is standard. This all makes for a starting price of $2548, which is already expensive, but by the time you opt for mobile broadband and another gigabyte of RAM you are looking at about $2850.

We already took the time to check out all the cool features on the X300, like the satin coating on the LCD cover, the use of dual cursor controls (like on the T series), as well as the changes from the all the previous ThinkPads, including the new battery shape. With the details out of the way we can focus on real-life experience with the X300. In fact, day-to-day use is where the X300 excels. It is lightweight and its thin profile makes the notebook a pleasure to get from place to place, despite the fact that most people would agree that the use of a 13.3″ display means the X300 is not an ultraportable. Being a ThinkPad, it has a sturdy build and it does not have the feeling of fragility like the Panasonic R500 or Sony’s TZ. Its use of an SSD means that even if you do bang up the notebook, the disk should certainly survive.

So the X300 is thin and light enough to travel with, but it also does quite well once it’s in place. This is where it is really set apart from an ultraportable because the 13.3″ display and full-sized keyboard make for a mobile computing experience that anyone can enjoy. These two attributes give the X300 the desktop usability of a your typical 14″ or 15″ notebook, and the main thing you are losing is weight. Typing on the X300 is excellent, just about as good as on a T/R, and the cursor controls are also spot on. Users inevitably tend towards one or the other but it is still nice to see both the trackpoint and the trackpad present.

The display is Lenovo’s first foray into LED backlighting on a ThinkPad and it was not a move that was made lightly. It comes over a year behind the competition and either the designers were waiting to release it on the X300 or they just weren’t ready to put it out. At 13.3″ and 1440×900 the display is a great size and the image quality is very good. The X300 seems a lot brighter than what we have come to expect from a ThinkPad, which is an great step forward, and the use of an LED should have a positive impact on battery life. While the X300 has a very good display, this is not the best LED-backlit product that we have seen. There is some noticeable backlight bleeding and at times the image has a sort of courseness to it that will make text look slightly off. Neither are major issues but they were noticeable during testing.

As Dell noticed with their dell M1330 with dell xps m1330 battery , the 13.3″ size is a very nice middle ground between portability and usability. Ultraportable fans will not like the additional size, just as many people noted on with the MacBook Air, but the majority of people will appreciate that there is a full-sized keyboard and an easy-to-read display on something this light.

One can’t talk about the X300 without mentioning that it has a full range of ports. These were covered in the previous article, but it’s worth a refresher. The notebook packs in a DVD-RW, three USB ports, mic/headphone jacks, VGA-out, ethernet, and it has a wireless on/off switch. It can be purchased with some nice connectivity-based upgrades, namely mobile broadband and UltraWide Band (UWB), and it has Bluetooth. So what’s missing? The modem jack and expansion card slot were dropped and there is no card reader, something which many people would prefer to a third USB port.

An iPod Nano and the X300’s SSD

While the X300 makes clear steps forward with its design, performance is still important. The Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 runs at 1.2GHz and should be more than enough to power through your day-to-day tasks and the SSD has a number of strengths over a typical 1.8″ disk. In our performance testing the X300 had no problem outperforming it’s lightweight competition, namely the Sony TZ150 and the non-SSD Toshiba R500. 3DMark01 and ‘03 scores of 5013 and 1399, along with PCMark04 and ‘05 of 3972 and 3563 put the performance of the X300 close to that of something like the Panasonic ToughBook Y7 and somewhere between the ThinkPad X61 and the X61s. SuperPi calculation scores (1M, 37.000 seconds; 2M, 85.250; 4M, 192.422; 8M, 424.468) largely confirm this. Overall the X300 is a solid performer for its category and it’s power is more than adequate for all intended usage scenarios (something I wish I could say about all $2000+ notebooks).

Thanks to the SSD one of the nicest things about the X300 is a very quick boot time. I tested with Windows XP and the cold boot time was just about 36.6 seconds. This was performed with the system unplugged, just as if you were starting it up when at a meeting or waiting for a plane. While powering up and powering down the system you can really appreciate some of the advantages that the SSD brings to the table.

As on any notebook made for travel, battery life is a very important feature for the X300. The X61s and the X61 both are known for their longevity, but they each use a standard battery, not the new design that we see on the X300. This design is both light and slim so there are definitely going to be limitations to it. Even so, Lenovo claims a battery life of up to 7.5 hours when using the X300 with a lenovo battery instead of the optical drive and its 6-cell battery. The 6-cell alone should last 5 hours. We tested the X300 with the 6-cell battery, but it is also available with a 3-cell model if you want to shave off some weight and save about $30.

With wireless on, doing general work, and the backlight at 50% the X300 lasted for about four hours during real-world testing. It is possible to jettison features, like shut off wireless and power off the optical drive, as well as lower the display if you want to eek out some extra time, but the best way to improve battery life is to swap out the optical drive for the option bay 3-cell battery, thinkpad x300 battery . Overall, battery life is solid but the X300 is not an all-day system. Luckily the included charger is compact and lightweight, in case it needs to make the trip as well.

The ThinkPad X300 is an exercise in balance. It’s designers were tasked with balancing performance and usability with size and weight and they did an excellent job. Sacrifices were made, like the dropped expansion slot and the lack of a card reader, but on the whole the system is extremely impressive. Some of this has to do with the fact that Lenovo decided to use a 64GB SSD which largely negates the performance loss of moving from a 2.5″ disk to a 1.8″ one, something a number of ultraportables have to deal with. This inflates the cost of the X300 heavily but while SSDs still have room to get better, if you are looking at a notebook this expensive you are probably strongly considering one. If you can afford it, the X300 is one of the best– if not the best pick–in the sub-3.5lb class, so long as you don’t have specifically need something that is ridiculously thin, you don’t mind that it is larger than twelve inches, and you can deal with the fact that you are limited to 64GB of storage. It may not be the “perfect laptop” but it’s a big step forward for the ThinkPad and a great overall system.

Lenovo T-400s: A business machine no more?

I sat down briefly last week with a couple folks from Lenovo who showed me the company’s latest ThinkPad, the T400s, newest thinkpad business laptop, which at a glance looks like a pretty sweet rig. Its Predecessor is thinkpad T60 laptop with thinkpad t60 battery .

Now, I’m biased toward sleek consumer notebooks and frankly I was a little skeptical beforehand trying to imaging how much appeal a business laptop would have. Think of those “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” Apple ads. I’ve a tendency to see business notebooks as frumpy, colourless machines that embody the serious grown-up world of corporate data crunchers and spreadsheet makers.

While I admit my prejudice, I’m big enough to recognize change.

Now don’t get me wrong. The T-400s (which ranges in price from a low of $1,500 to as high as $2,500) is geared toward business users, thinkpad T400 battery is stronger than Previous battery, such as thinkpad t60 battery . But like a pickup truck that can handle the job on the construction site and also looks good driving down the avenue, this machine has enough going for it that Lenovo might consider marketing it to the general power user whose interests vary from crafting colourful PowerPoint presentations to creating and consuming multimedia.

Now, while design often forms your first impression, what’s inside the T-400s outweighs its business-like appearance. Reports on the laptop’s battery life are generally very positive – I asked if you’d be able to watch the four-plus hours of the extended version of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King without it dying 20 minutes from the credits and was assured I could. It also has an integrated web cam, great lenovo thinkpad t400 battery for the Skype or Go2Meeting chats, and includes a feature I think should be on every computer – software that backs up and secures your data automatically on a hard drive partition. The one-button ThinkVantage recovery means that if you need to reinstal the factory default, you just hit the blue button and follow the instructions. No discs necessary.

The notebook also comes with an optional solid-state drive and a built-in USB/eSATA port. The Lenovo reps also pointed out a few changes on their keyboard: larger Delete and Esc buttons, powerful thinkpad t400 battery , which poor typists such as I, appreciate dearly.

It’s also pretty tough. Lenovo has wrapped a seemly fragile frame in their Top Cover Roll Cage, which is essentially a reinforced skeleton that can allegedly withstand being rolled over by a car. I say allegedly because they Lenono reps wouldn’t let me take the notebook out to the parking lot and try crushing it,lenovo laptop battery . I jest, of course. Pretty impressive considering how skinny the T-400s is.

    What is battery memory effect

Memory effect is due to the use of the lenovo battery cell contents have an effect crystallization. Usually only occurred in the nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries less lithium batteries does not have this phenomenon. Occurred because some of repeat battery charge and discharge due to incomplete. Temporary battery capacity will decrease, resulting in the notebook at the time of standby battery time. Seen from the above notebook is now generally used is the lithium lenovo battery, which means basically no memory effect. Some people say that the first three necessary and sufficient charge must be more than a dozen hours in order to fully activate the battery, I think, there is no need, of course, the new battery is the capacity of earlier than later to be reduced, it is a long-term battery storage, the activity material surface passivation, caused, I think the previous full charge after 12 hours is enough, of course, will charge your notebook with the battery charge current and you will have the capacity of the different changes, short charging time is not the longer the better, so not only can not activate the battery, on the contrary will affect life expectancy. Although the world have adopted the surface of the notebook lithium batteries, and for some second-hand use of old nickel-cadmium batteries or nickel-metal hydride batteries battery users should not use rechargeable power, or to discharge in a notebook. Do not have to repeat rechargeable battery, so as to avoid the emergence of memory effect. Lenovo laptop Battery to fully discharge the battery must be placed about 24-hour standby, completely discharge and then charge full power cycle so many times, be able to resume its battery capacity, unless the battery has been damaged. However, in order to avoid such a phenomenon, or lithium batteries recommended choices for consumers.

    Automatic Power Protection notebook

Notebook manufacturers to include in the notebook battery automatic power protection technology, which is when the battery power has reached 90% -95% would be wrong to charge the battery. In fact, this depends on your time in the use of external power is not need to charge the battery, the battery charge life is directly related to the number. We know that lithium batteries are relatively less number of charge cycles, under normal circumstances the number of lithium-ion battery charging and discharging are fixed number of charge cycles to only 500 or so, most will not exceed 800. Each of us to the first electric battery, the corresponding, it is to reduce the frequency of a rechargeable. But now many notebook manufacturers have to take into account the vulnerability of the battery, after an increase in the protection of the battery technology does not meet certain conditions will not be charged. Propose that we make full use of external power supply, if the use of half-way multiple plug power supply, laptop and did not pull out the built-in lenovo batteries , because each access to external power supply is equivalent to a battery charge. Best to switch off the charger when the notebook computer, the lenovo battery can be completely full of electricity, do not unplug the power drop in the charge. Than boot off charging more than 30% charge to shorten the charging time, but also to extend battery life. Best finish in 30 minutes after charging use. As the batteries run out of power very easily, the majority has only a piece of notebook computer batteries, therefore, some notebook manufacturers to develop a fast charge feature that lets users run out of power can be added with the fastest speed power. For example, Dell notebook computer with ExpressCharge function, can be recharged in one hour 90%. Not even 100 percent for? Because lithium batteries in accordance with the charge-discharge characteristics, if the regular fast charge to 100%, battery life on both large shortened, so the back of 10% will be replaced before the slow-fast charge to extend battery charge life. Even so, a long time when you use an external power supply or the use of computer is recommended that you unplug the battery because the lenovo laptop battery temperature is also one of the nemesis, the use of notebook computers will have a certain temperature, which is very harmful to the battery. Of course, if you are not sure their batteries, then I suggest you pull your battery down and then use an external power supply, because not all batteries have a protection circuit.

    Notebook battery maintenance tips

    1. When no external power supply, a number of external devices such as: the mouse, U disk, printer or other storage, input devices had been completed as far as possible in the use of external equipment off, because external devices such as USB devices do not work still to power, and the use of the power supply is the battery. In the notebook for the standby, sleep or even shut down when the external equipment should also be pulled out.

    2. Room temperature (25 degrees Celsius) for the battery of the most appropriate operating temperature, the temperature too high or too low will reduce the operating environment of the use of lenovo battery time. And some of the old battery when the temperature is too high a risk of explosion would have, in particular, it should be noted that the notebook cooling problem!

    3. The best of three months or so for a laptop battery power correction. Batteries please refer to the above-mentioned correction of the content.

    4. As already mentioned the number of battery charge and discharge is directly related to life, filling every time, the battery (especially lithium-ion battery for example) reduces the number of first use. It would be useful to suggest that you use an external power supply, so as to reduce the number of battery life, increase life expectancy.

    5. The battery in the case of non-use of battery power should ensure that in 50%, should be preserved to prevent exposure to prevent damp to prevent the chemical liquid erosion, avoid contact with the metal battery contact lead to the occurrence of short circuits. Other use please refer to some of the above tips.

    Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Review

The ThinkPad T61 14.1″ widescreen notebook was recently released by Lenovo as an update to the T60 series. But with the same powerful as thinkpad T60 battery. The T61 uses the new Intel Centrino Duo platform (Santa Rosa) and offers a number of design updates.Like the Lenovo R61, the T61 features a wide-screen display, high capacity lenovo T61 Battery . which is fast becoming the norm, even in business-minded laptops. The chassis itself has been reinforced with a new internal roll cage, replacing the traditional solid magnesium alloy cover.

    Thinkpad T61 Laptop Specs

  • Weight: 5.1lbs
  • Exterior Design

The overall design concept of the ThinkPad series hasn’t changed much in the last few years. You can see the same jet black color, the shape of the case and lid, and the red dot of a TrackPoint, just as on earlier ThinkPad products.High quality li-ion battery(thinkpad T61 Battery )

The only thing you may find missing on brief inspection is red-blue-green IBM logos. They have been replaced with inconspicuous ThinkPad emblems, not with Lenovo’s own logotypes.

The exterior of the lid has a rubberized coating from the so-called soft plastic. It is indeed soft and agreeable to the touch. It is also practical because the notebook is less likely to slip out of your hands. This surface is more resistant to small damage than the ascetic plastic the rest of the ThinkPad case is made from.

    Input and Output Ports

The port layout of the T61 has also changed quite a bit, and mostly for the good since we now have a standard FireWire port and optional media-card reader port. I’m not so thrilled with the fact that all of the USB ports are vertically oriented; I find this more awkward than horizontal.

The media-card reader is an option, but it replaces the ExpressCard slot if you go for it. You can also get a Smart Card slot in place of the ExpressCard if your company needs that. Let’s take a tour around the T61 to see all of the ports that you get.

    Processor and Performance

The ThinkPad T61 now uses the Intel Centrino Duo (Santa Rosa) platform. You get a faster processor front side bus (800MHz), more processor cache (4MB) and an improved integrated graphics solution in the form of the Intel X3100. If all that talk is nonsense to you, then suffice it to say the T61 offers newer and better processing components than the T60,and lenovo T61 battery is more power than t60 battery . Will this performance be perceivable in helping to run MS Word faster? No of course not, but certain processor intensive tasks such as encoding video will be faster. And even if you won’t be utilizing every ounce of processing power, just knowing the processor is faster and you’re on top of the game is enough to make people like myself want to buy it.

How to avoid and resolve lenovo battery can not be discharge?

    1. The reasons:

  • a. lenovo batteries as storage, use, life decay;
  • b. charge or charge less than;
  • c. ambient temperature is too low;
  • d. discharge less efficient, such as the large current discharge due to internal lenovo battery when the ordinary substances could not keep pace with the proliferation of reaction speed, causing the drastic drop in voltage can not produce electricity;
  • e. has been discharge protection.
  • 2. Measures:

  • IBM ThinkPad notebook battery activation, maintenance, storage charge

IBM laptop batteries in use, activate and other operations, for various reasons, often in the details of the operation of an error, inadvertently unknowingly hurt your battery.

Now we would like to give a detailed analysis of two examples to illustrate the “operational details” the importance of.
Example: When the notebook AC Power Supply Department, and [the lenovo battery has been installed in the machine, and charging power than the start value (default is 96%)] after the shutdown, unplug the AC plug should be? After completion of the work shut down after a while the screen closed, it is easy to think that at this time has been off the success of the exchange as soon as conveniently plugs pulled out, not knowing at this time although the screen closed, but the motherboard power light (the circle in shape with the word Z light) remains to kindle, when the laptop is actually working, that is to say the machine needs to be the power supply at this time; if Unplug the AC plug at this time, notebooks will be the exchange of power from the state immediately to the state of battery-powered , no reason to use the battery a few seconds, so although it seems less than the number of electricity, but to speed up the battery faster fall to set the value of the initial charge of electricity, thereby reducing the use of cycle rechargeable laptop battery, affecting the life of the battery . AC Plug not pulled back, night out then? When the motherboard power indicator goes out (the battery status indicator still kindle), do not unplug the AC plug, power loss due to the motherboard, the power management system stops running out of control, the battery in the battery-management chip interface circuit, composed of about 5 seconds will be automatically transferred to “shut down state-of-charge”, when the battery status indicator light to kindle a constant, trickle charge the battery Department, so after the shutdown delay in the exchange of plugs will be pulled out for no reason to on the power> 96% of the battery for a short time to charge, and you hurt the battery. [Not completely run out of power before (that is, power in the 5 ~ 100%), not to charge batteries, or will be used to shorten the charge cycle, increased number of charge cycles and affect battery life. ]

Integrated above, the correct method of operation is: In addition to the lenovo laptop battery status indicator, the bottom of the screen all the indicator light turns off, unplug the AC plug that with (not later than 5 seconds), the exchange of plug pulled out after about 5 seconds, the battery status indicator light goes out automatically.

According to the above analysis we can see that the exchange of power supply have been used, the intent is to minimize the use of batteries, rechargeable lenovo batteries and prolong the use of cycles; and as a result of defects in the operation of the details, “unfinished, anti-Qing harmed”; “operation details “We can thus see the importance.

Example Two: When using the AC power supply, the AC adapter AC input and DC output plugs Plug and Play (dumping) the operation of the order in which they are particular about the details of. The correct method of operation is: first AC adapter DC output plug into the notebook’s power jack, then plug into 220V AC input AC power outlet; and should be unloaded first when the AC input plug unplug, DC output plug and then pull out. If the plug (unloaded) to reverse the order of the time, the Agency will be no-load AC adapter, and AC adapter is not allowed to empty the state Department for its work on the pulse, and no-load when the switch transformer windings will have very high anti-peak voltage breakdown, such as IC, voltage-sensitive components such as capacitors. Although the AC adapter has been set up its no-load protection circuit, but the design should take account of other problems, such protection circuits of the protective effect is very limited; Department when the AC adapter when no-load state may be damaged.

From the above analysis we can understand that in any of the details of the operation are so important, allows a single vague and perfunctory; that big point, this is what we usually talk about the meticulous nature of science and technology. To this end, I think I need to write down some rules on the battery-operated to make appropriate changes to the text, sorting; for your reference in order to draw attention to the details of the operation; at the same time called upon the teachers and supplementary criticism. Increase due to allocation constraints, can not be below Another example of the above example as a detailed analysis, this point also please forgive me.

    Activated to deal with:

Following activation of the batteries needed to deal with:

    1. Just the opening of the new lenovo battery.

    2. A result of a long time do not use batteries, storage batteries Department to leave the computer, and is re-enabled when the battery.

    3. A long time do not use the battery from the notebook computer or laptop out of storage back-up (more than two or three months), is re-enabled when the battery.

Activation of the cells the way to deal with:

Activation of chemical substances within the cell, to maximize battery performance, need to repeat the charge and discharge of the battery (fully charged and then fully discharge) three times. The so-called fully charge and discharge means: the normal boot so that the lenovo laptop battery consumption to 3% of battery power (preferably a depletion, but also to power consumption can be divided into several times, but the interval should not be too long), and then the battery must be shut down immediately 12 hours charging.

Here stressed the need to immediately charge to the batteries because the battery will be carried out even without the use of self-discharge, when the battery to 3% of electricity consumption, at this point in time if battery charge, can easily result in the phenomenon of self-discharge over-discharge battery to the detriment of batteries, lithium batteries have been discharged is a big taboo.

Activated to deal with battery charge, the machine must be turned off Department. If the Department to wait for the machine, hang and so on, and when the charge to 3 ~ 4 hours after the green battery status indicator light is no longer beating, the machine will automatically stop charging the lenovo battery, so that can not be fully charged battery. To 3% when the discharge of electricity, the machine will automatically enter the sleep state, at this point should be to start the machine, the machine to start the process of shutting down the bottom left of the screen click the button, the machine shutdown.

If the operator has mastered all the details well, and the quality of your battery and there is no problem, you can activate the battery well of chemical substances, to maximize the performance of the battery, the battery is basically normal in the future every time the use of can charge to 100%.

    Use of questions:

Battery is a kind of “consumables”, the battery depends on the wear and tear when you use the battery to the correctness of the operation, operation mode, operating frequency, the work of the ambient temperature, inventory time (of the battery is not used), such as factor .

    1. The number of battery charge and discharge is directly related to battery life, lithium batteries in general charge and discharge frequency of only about 400 ~ 600 times, but also improved the product 800 times, once for each battery charge to the end of the use of a step forward. (When below 85% of the electricity to recharge the lenovo laptop battery, will be recorded and an additional number of charge cycles.)

To this end, greater than the battery when the battery power management process by setting the charging start value (default is 96%), and you have 220V current places where AC power, should make full use of AC power to minimize battery number of charge cycles in order to extend battery life.

Batteries do not need at this time away from the machine because the boot will not charge for the electricity than the start value (default is 96%) to recharge the battery. But even so, if you are a long-term use of AC power and battery rarely used, it is recommended the battery is removed from the machine to compare because notebooks have a long run-time heat will cause some harm to the battery. It should be noted that this is only from the perspective of the battery maintenance to discuss it, and in actual operation you must be based on your needs to make trade-offs. In such cases due to the exchange once the power supply, you have not saved the data support the absence of cell loss, and, if the moment in power, you just access the hard disk drive and other data, this sudden there is no battery power due to the support of the machine may harm your equipment, this was a loss, the user must make trade-offs. In addition to drawing attention to is this: When you make a system backup, system recovery or create recovery CD, you have fully charged battery must be installed on the machine, and the use of reliable operation of AC power boot.

    2. When the power for 3 to 5%, the battery should be given, because when the battery power dropped to 1%, the battery discharge curve of the state have been bending Department of the internal resistance of the leakage has been significantly smaller than normal, since the discharge current is also larger than normal, the phenomenon of self-discharge batteries can cause damage to cells and batteries have been discharged. Charge when the machine may be shutdown, suspend any state, can also side by side filling.

Must be a full charge, otherwise they will damage the battery. This is based on the necessary and sufficient to avoid shortening the cycle with increased number of charge cycles and shorten the battery life; and not as a result of “Memory features” problem, lithium batteries do not like nickel-cadmium batteries and nickel-hydrogen batteries have “memory characteristics”, lithium batteries do not have “memory characteristics. ”

Office machinery, such as charging shutdown or hibernation, when the charge to 3 ~ 4 hours after the green battery status indicator light is no longer beating, the time has reached 100% of electricity should be a timely manner to prevent removal of AC power plug to charge the battery too and harm the battery.

Office machinery, such as waiting time charge, or hang side by side the state of charge, when charging to 3 ~ 4 hours after the green ibm laptop battery status indicator light is no longer beating, the battery state of charge will automatically exit.

Charging process would be carried out in fast charge when the battery status indicator light yellow (Always), filling a certain value to a small current into the slow trickle charge when the battery status indicator flashes of color become green ; has been after a 100%, it becomes green (Always) the. Lithium battery charging process is the way of constant pressure to start charging voltage will soon stabilize, and the current is getting smaller and smaller.

    3. Not completely run out of power before (that is, power in the 5 ~ 100%), not to charge the battery, otherwise they will be used to shorten the charge cycle and increase the number of charge cycles shorten battery life.
When the electricity charge for the 5% start value (default is 96%) should be used when the battery work, so the use of AC power adapter for charging on the battery (side by side the state of charge).

    4. When the electricity for charging start value (default is 96%) ~ 100% or out of the battery from the machine, use the switched AC power adapter, AC power adapter to use when you put the AC power adapter DC output plug into the machine, and then plug into AC power outlet on 220V ~; unloaded when the AC power adapter should be first and then unplug the AC power plug from the machine, unplug the AC power adapter DC output plug . Otherwise you may damage the equipment.

Use AC power adapter, the [ibm battery has been installed in the machine, and charging power than the start value (default is 96%)] when the AC power plug into 220V ~ socket outlet, but the battery state of machine instructions the former has yet to kindle lights (Note: during which time about 5 seconds), please press the power button to boot a timely manner; off or enter hibernation, apart from the green battery status indicator light is now all the other things out, please promptly from 220V ~ Unplug the AC power outlet plug (not later than 5 seconds), AC power plug pulled out after about 5 seconds, the green battery status indicator goes out; otherwise would have been charging the battery and damage caused by batteries. Shutdown state due to AC power adapter is still non-discharge state, loss of electricity due to the motherboard, the power management system stops running out of control, the battery’s power management chips from the interface circuit composed of about 5 seconds after will automatically turn “off state-of-charge”, and to charge the battery. (At this point a constant kindle battery status indicator, battery trickle charge Department) If necessary, do not unplug the machine from the AC power adapter’s DC output plug, when the battery through AC power adapter will not reverse discharge.

If the order to suspend work or suspend the machine to enter the wait state, not from 220V ~ Unplug the AC power outlet plugs; therefore still power supply when the machines to maintain. (Not recommended to enter a long time to wait for the machine or suspend state, to care for your machine.)

    5. IBM in ThinkPad notebook computers information technology related indicators identified in the “battery life” is a vendor-specific conditions in the measured, the indicators used in our normal notebook can not be achieved under the conditions of the , for example: information technology-related indicators identified in the “battery life” for 4 hours, in normal use can only get about 3.5 hours of battery power supply. If you are far less than, but still in warranty, come contact IBM.

    Maintenance and storage

    1. If the battery a longer period of time (several months) do not, should be removed to preserve back-up machine. About every one and a half months on a ibm laptop battery charge-discharge and finishing in order to improve the state of your battery to increase battery capacity.

    2. If the batteries do not have a long time, power should be set to 30 ~ 50% after the storage, it is recommended to charge the battery about once a year, and its power set to 30 ~ 50%, in order to prevent over-discharge and battery damage.Battery power will be set to 30 ~ 50% of the specific method of operation as follows: When the battery power more than 50%, the power consumption can boot to 30 ~ 50%. If the power consumption of less than 30% of power to boot to 3%, then charge to 100% power and then boot to be 30 ~ 50%.

    3. Not to temperature and battery on a cold environment, the battery performance will be temporarily reduced. Department should be the preservation and storage of the state of standby battery placed in the lower temperature for the batteries, the best temperature range is about 10 ~ 20 degrees Celsius.

Start value adjustments on the charge

Set start value charge, click the system tray icon in the plug (when you boot using the AC) or white battery icon (when you boot using the battery) / select Improve Battery Health / modify Start charging when below values. (If the system tray icon is no power plug, according to the following steps: Start / All Programs / ACCESS IBM / BATTERY MAXIMISER WIZARD, three “NEXT”, to STEP 3: VIEWING BATTERY STATUS / in the lower left-hand corner “SHOW BATTERY MAXIMISER GAUGE ON TASKBAR “box in front of select / and then” NEXT “to” complete “)

Do not extend the necessary and sufficient for the deliberate use of cycle changes significantly by the lenovo battery management process set start value of the charge; because when you set up to charge a low start value (for example, 80%), though the battery with AC power adapter to use the “necessary and sufficient to use cycle” may take up to three or four months, but when using the battery is bound to have to deal with their re-activated, otherwise the battery status and capacity of the poor. This increased the number of charge cycles and shorten the battery life. Furthermore the battery takes about one and a half months each for a discharge and recharge finishing, and that because of charge-based low start value (for example, 80%) after extended use of the charge cycle will be even more meaningless.

After the battery fully charged and the phenomenon of self-discharge to 96% decline in electricity consumption generally last for about 50 days, while the battery is just about every one and a half months to be a discharge and recharge finishing, it is apparent that, IBM is our charge from the default start value of 96% is some truth in this. However, with the aging batteries, the battery fully charged due to the phenomenon of self-discharge capacity fell to 96% the time required may be shortened, at this time we will need to charge slightly lower start value, so the time just a month and a half about.

If you often need to live in the office and equipment between the “two places” bustle, in the office with AC adapter power supply operation, and in the equipment used at the scene to operate battery-powered, it is recommended you start value is set to charge 6%; This will reduce the charge to avoid the increase with cycle number of charge cycles and shorten the lenovo battery life; and will not be affected due to caring for the battery of the mobile edge of the notebook.

Please note that the text is limited to the issues discussed in the IBM ThinkPad notebook, and other brands of machines in this article for reference only, since machines of different brands, and its system of power management and control procedures, as well as batteries battery management, monitoring procedures are not the same because of .

    lenovo laptop battery usage

We often have to ask such a question, I used this time is no need to use the battery when AC? Laptop Battery is not put together can do to extend battery life? Battery life in the end how much? Li-ion notebook battery memory effect did not it?

1, Li-ion lenovo battery is the memory effect is very small, almost to 0.
2, it is not the battery can not be directly used for AC then? Not
3, because the lenovo lithium ion battery inside a long time at a relatively quiescent state (the so-called relatively static, that is, without electricity or lenovo laptop battery power a small amount of time. A long time is how long: six months or so), will completely lose the stored energy of the function (no matter what method you use, such as the so-called big charge Dafang even do not charge more than 12 hours use)
4, if the battery is trying to put together if not, it should be filled up to 90% of the electricity, plastic wrap on a cool, dry place
5, lenovo thinkpad battery life in the end how much? Tell you that there is no concept of time constraints, an 8-cell lithium-battery life (remember that is the life) is about 800-1200 charge, below the number of lenovo battery quality Lianyuan
